There is a much of question related Choosing a Network Adapter for your Virtual Machine as called as vNIC when you used VMware vSphere as your Hypervisor, in this article i need to show you a Different of E1000 with VMXNET3. So, E1000 is default when you not Determine Virtual NIC at install Operating System for your VM/Guest OS while VMXNET3 must determine when installation process run.
The Best Practice from VMware is to use the VMXNET3 Virtual NIC unless there is a specific driver or compatibility reason where it cannot be used, even Basically E1000 and VMXNET3 is Logicall. But, a fundamental different is Jumbo Frame since E1000 not support it. Many people also give an argument that VMXNET3 is like using 10Gbps port.
Then, In order to switch your Virtual Appliance from the previous adapter to use the VMXNET3, below these steps :
- Power Off (optional) your Virtual Machine
- Then Right click your VM, choose Setting then pointing to your E1000 vNIC
- Write down or copy paste your Mac Address if you needed (optional)
- After step 3, you can delete E1000 vNIC
- Still on Setting menu, choose add and point to NIC, next and choose VMXNET3
- Change your Mac Address to Manual if you need to paste your Mac as old vNIC
- Power on your VM and Done
